Its Your Shot 4

Hey, musicians of the future! You know that Simon Cowell story you’ve been waiting for your entire life? “It’s Your Shot” is a contest that’s looking to put a record contract in front of you, and possibly make you Canada’s next big star.

If you win this, your career won’t just get a kick start, it’ll be jettisoned by a team of music biz power-players to set you on a direct course to radio stations, gigs, and the high-diving board that leads to who knows where. The grand prize winner gets over $50,000 in practical stuff that includes a recording sessions with a name producer, pressings of your debut EP, promotional muscle, tour support, social media status and, in case you are in a fix, $2,500 cash.

The whole fandango comes courtesy of Slaight Music – champion and prime supporter of the Canadian music industry. The contest, which is open to all musical genres, encourages artists to submit a song and/or video to www.itsyourshot.ca for a chance to win the grand prize that has benefitted 2011 winner Liz Coyles, who had a Top 20 hit with her debut single “Butterflies”; 2012 winner, Hamilton’s Thought Beneath Film; Jillea (2013), from Saint John, NB, whose debut single and EP are due for release via Universal Music Canada this year; and 2014’s winner Sam Drysdale.

Ali Slaight, Music Talent Development Coordinator, comments, “It’s Your Shot is something I look forward to every year, and being the curator of the Top 25 gives me the opportunity to go through all of the submissions on my own; discovering so many talented and gifted artists during this process over the last few years is what truly excites me. Winning this competition is a giant step towards a successful musical career for any emerging artist and we can’t wait to hear what the entrants to ‘It’s Your Shot 2015′ bring this year!”

The competition runs from August 1st to October 31st, with the winning submission announced mid-December.
